A tale of a Surat saree

Image
" He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist." -Saint Francis of Assisi A decade ago, when my grand parents from Gujarat, India, visited our home; presented my mom a beautiful hand embroidered Surat saree. My mom used to wear and maintain in a delicate manner, cus she loved the work of the saree. Cut to 2019, the saree is worn out due to innumerable usage and passage of time. Hence I decided to do something outta the saree to make her happy. I just adjusted the worn out part with hand embroidery to make it look delightful. Then, reassembled the pieces in a proper manner. I pasted this piece of work on a velvet cloth and framed it. While you can order on e-commerce websites, there is nothing like the satisfaction walking into the bedroom every single day and have your stare at the fruits of your labour. PEACOCK, Oh wait! you can't hunt it.

Image
When I was reconstructing my house, a lot of unused sponges were thrown away by the painters. The unused sponges unleashed my creative skills. As an ardent supporter of PETA, I wanted to make a independent and beautiful animal or a bird which cannot be hunted. Hence I decided to make a peacock. The national bird of my country, India 🇮🇳, where hunting and killing of peacocks is a crime. I made this peacock by cutting sponges into a good shapes and decorating with kundan stones. It's high time to realise that animals and birds are NOT TOYS. They are emotional and full of life who deserve the same care that you'd give to a human. Cheers :)

Simple wall hanging for beginners

A lot of people talk about making home decor items but end up saying that " they are running outta time". After observing a bit, I concluded that people have time but not patience. Be it art, craft or anything of that matter; passion, patience and practice are the most important key to master it. Talking about the craft, I've used craft paper and cardboard make it into a wall hanging. You can also convert it into a photoframe by attaching a photo in it or write some quote in it.

Butterflies, not butter and fries!

Image
PS : I made this. I've always thought of being independent and self-dependent. Hence, I decided to make these beautiful origami butterflies very opposite to my study table. These butterflies are colourful and beautiful, thus, make someone's day. This pattern of the free and fearless butterflies reflects my inner desire to live a free and fearless life. These butterflies are graceful, elegant and bright. However, butterflies do more than just paint a pretty picture. They help flowers pollinate, eat plenty of weedy plants and provide a food source for other animals. So, butterflies do their duty by adding beauty to the environment. I've always wanted to be like these butterflies and fly high,be a responsible person and add glories.

"I got it from my mom"

Growing up in a conservative Indian family, kirtans and chalisas about gods are part of everyday life. No matter whether it is a living room or bedroom, pictures of gods and goddesses can be seen. Whenever I ask my mom out to a art gallery she always insistes me to visit temples, as it is well known for marvelous sculptures. Indeed they are celebrated for architectural gems. When I was a toddler, my Indian mom gotta Ganesha (elephant god) embose painting down town. My mom is inquisitive about learning art and craft, so am I. Though painting the material is not a herculean task but mixing the colour is. I still remember helping her in mixing those stuffs. I think it is were it all started. Time files, it's been a decade now, from helping her to showing my new craft items, I grew up to be a 16 year old just an other teenager.

The Artifacted Letters!

Image
PS : I made this. After having completed my school exams, I flew to my granny's home. As soon as I entered her place, I started posting snaps. There came my grandma and enquired the difference between Snapchat and WhatsApp. " In this tech era, we end up taking things for granted, but do we ever think about what we are losing? By forgetting about the art of letter writing, I think we’re missing out. Hugely", cried grandma. "I don’t know a single person who would say that they didn’t enjoy receiving a letter through the post. There’s something really special about a hand-written letter for you. It doesn’t have to be full of important news- after all, but it feels so much more personal to receive just one letter from someone than to receive the hundreds of texts we get every single day", said grandma. She continued saying that letters are rare, romantic, sentimental and hence make someone's day. I agreed when she said they are historic artifacts. I...
